Setting Sail

Welcome to my new humble blog, The Holy Anchor. Over the years, I have posted a wide range of content on various topics to multiple blogs, but will now be simply posting here. The purpose and mission for The Holy Anchor is to glorify the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ by exalting Him to the fullest, magnifying His name above all names, and demonstrating the full richness of God’s grace towards us through Him.

This is somewhat of a new experience for me, this kind of blog, so by God’s grace I’ll be learning as I go. I am prone to make errors often in my theology and my knowledge of the Scriptures is very limited. Oh, I suppose I have more knowledge than most, but not the right kind of knowledge. Truly knowing the Scriptures is seeing Jesus Christ in and through them, like the author of Hebrews demonstrated so well.

I am just recently coming to learn, I think, what it means to glorify Christ. In John 5:41 Jesus said “I do not receive glory from people.” This makes it seem rather pointless for me to try and give Him some then doesn’t it? I do not give Him glory or create glory for Him. He receives glory from His Father (John 8:54) and from the Holy Spirit (John 16:14). My only desire is to celebrate His glory, meditate upon it, hope in it, and boldly proclaim it.

I hope there are others as well, hungry for a look at His glory. This is what Jesus prayed for after all, that we might be with Him where He is and see His glory (John 17:24). Abraham saw His glory back in his day along with all those listed in Hebrews 11. My prayer is that God would grant to His people what Jesus requested and unite us with His Son that we may see His glory. It is our hope and our future and an anchor for our souls.

Verses

“I do not receive glory from people.”

John 5:41

Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God.'”

John 8:54

“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.”

John 16:13-14

“Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.”

John 17:24

“These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on earth.”

Hebrews 11:13
